Olympus M.Zuiko 25mm f/1.2 PRO is the first from new 1.2 primes that was released in 2016. I was fortunate enough to shoot a couple of events with this lens and I want to share some of my thoughts.
I’m mostly 35mm and 85mm shooter (in terms of FF) and initially I was hesitating a little bit about the new 25mm (50mm equivalent), but from the begining I was very impressed.
This lens is perfect for every event photographer shooting inside or in tight spaces. It’s great for portraits, without the distortion of the wide angle, but in the same time wide enough even for group portraits indoors.
Optically the performance of the lens is stellar, it’s very sharp even wide open and from f/2.0 reaches maximum sharpness. Flare and chromatic abberations are very well controlled as expected and there is no real weakness of the lens and it’s performance.
I can recommend highly this lens to all event, wedding, portrait and street photographers with it’s bright aperture, compact size and weather sealed construction is a no brainier.
Here are some examples most of it shoot wide open.
